These are local homeschool resources in the Tallahassee area that many families have found helpful. While Flourishing Family Academy is not affiliated with all of these organizations, they are shared as a courtesy to support the broader homeschool community.
Flourishing Family Academy encourages families to explore local enrichment activities, classes, and other helpful information related to homeschooling in the Tallahassee area. The academy recognizes that no single program can meet the needs of every homeschool family, and families may benefit from a variety of educational opportunities and community resources.
By sharing these resources, Flourishing Family Academy hopes to help families connect with programs and activities that best support their unique educational goals.
Nature’s Page Educational Talks & Workshops
Vicky Bufano is a homeschool mom and nature educator currently completing her Nature Journal Educator Certification through the Wild Wonder Foundation and pursuing a Master Naturalist Certification with the University of Florida/IFAS.
She is the founder and educator of Nature’s Page, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to fostering connection between nature, the brain, and a page of paper. Nature’s Page serves individuals of all ages, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of the natural world through nature journaling and outdoor education.
Research shows that spending just 5–10 minutes in nature benefits both mind and body. When time outdoors is combined with deep observation and journaling, the brain forms new neural connections that support learning and creativity. As a Charlotte Mason homeschool mom, Vicky’s work naturally flows from her passion for nature study and her love for God’s creation.
Programs vary by interest and audience and typically include a guided nature walk along with instruction in observation, documentation, and basic drawing skills.

Tallahassee Homeschool String Orchestra (THSO)
The Tallahassee Homeschool String Orchestra (THSO) is a well-established string education program serving the homeschool community in the Tallahassee area. Founded in 2014, THSO has been a fully functioning orchestra program for over a decade, providing high-quality ensemble instruction for students of varying ages and experience levels.
THSO is open to homeschool students and other interested students as approved by the orchestra directors. All rehearsals begin with prayer and are taught with a Christian emphasis and worldview.
Program Overview
THSO currently serves an average of 80–90 students each academic year and offers six ensembles/classes designed to meet students where they are developmentally and musically. Students range in age from 3 to 18 years old, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced ensemble opportunities available.
In Fall 2026, THSO plans to expand by adding an additional class specifically for older beginning students.
Class Location & SchedulPerformances & Special Programs
Students participate in two major concerts each year:
Christmas Concert in December
Final Spring Concert in May
THSO also offers a summer camp, providing additional instruction and enrichment outside the regular academic year.
Music Organization Memberships & All-State Participation
THSO holds memberships with several major music organizations, including:
FOA (Florida Orchestra Association)
FMEA (Florida Music Education Association)
FSMA (Florida School Music Association)
NAfME (National Association for Music Education)
These memberships allow THSO students to participate in Florida All-State opportunities. THSO is proud to be one of the very few homeschool orchestra programs in Florida with students represented at the All-State level, an opportunity made possible in part through the support and guidance of Brenda Dickinson.
Leadership
THSO is led administratively by Vicky Bufano, a homeschool parent and the program’s Administrative Director, who works alongside the orchestra directors to support students and families.
